Short Hair Trends You’re About To See Everywhere

By | April 4th, 2022

Clients may have already upgraded their color earlier this year. However, as we head into the warmer months, the focus will shift to refreshing their haircut, and this season you can expect to see shorter styles trending. Shorter cuts give a double meaning to being cool; they are both bold and quite literally keep you cool from the upcoming heat. Read on to learn about the top short hair trends and a few of our favorite products to create the looks!

The Bixie

Over the years, the pixie has taken on a shorter and edgier finish. However, this season the shape is returning to the original look worn by Twiggy with slightly more length. This is where the bixie trend comes in! A blend between a pixie and a bob, the bixie can combine layers or have a heavyweight line and expertly tailored face-framing pieces to create an authentic one-of-a-kind finish. To style, spray 1922 by J.M. Keune Tough Texture, blow-dry to give your look messy-sexy texture, and then detail with 1922 by J.M. Keune Matte Measure.

The Boy Bob

While the bob remains one of the season’s top styles, it is taking on a slightly shorter variation with the boy bob this year. Characterized by a weight line that falls closer to the middle of the cheek than the chin, this look can be paired with choppy fringe or increased texturization to complete the look. Our favorite way to style it? Go for a wet finish! Work  1922 by J.M. Keune Classic Gel through damp strands and directional dry the hair by slicking it back, then comb through a finishing layer of Classic Gel to create a high shine finish.

Modern Mullet

It is all about texture this season, which is why we see a return of the mullet. Modernizing it for 2022, shapes will vary from long to short and even be combined with other cuts like the shag and the pixie to add texture to various lengths. No matter the length, the style should be prepped with 1922 by J.M. Keune Tough Texture and rough-dried before applying 1922 by J.M. Keune Premier Paste to nourish the hair and add volume and definition.

Classic Shag

With increased texture being one of the most requested asks in the salon, the shag proves that it is here to stay. The great thing about cutting texture into a cut is that it allows the wearer to enhance their natural wave and curl patterns. This wash and wear look also offers a low-maintenance styling alternative for many. Prep hair with a quick wash — we love the 1922 by J.M. Keune Shampoo Stick for a nourishing blend of provitamin B5 that is great for the client on the go. Then, apply a layer of 1922 by J.M. Keune Classic Gel throughout and allow to dry before refining the look with 1922 by J.M. Keune Premier Paste to add volume and added texture.
