How To Get Texture Patterns To Last Longer

By | May 25th, 2021

The past year may have thrown go-to hair habits out the window, but as we round the corner into summer and the ease of lockdowns everywhere, clients will be looking to get back into the groove of styling their hair again. Whether you’re enhancing natural curls, coils or kinks, or creating them with the use of heat styling, find the right products to care for, accentuate and prolong their shape.

Natural Texture Patterns

Perfecting the art of air-drying is a delicate process that requires both trial and error and a cocktail of products from prep to finish.

Before You Begin:

  • If the hair pattern permits, use a paddle brush to comb our hair out before cleansing and conditioning. Start at the ends and work the brush toward the scalp to cut down on tangles and possible breakage.
  • Turning the temperature of the water down can help reduce dryness and frizz for a smooth finish.

Prep:

The right cleanser and conditioner provide the foundation for optimum results from the air-drying process. Keune Care Curl Control Shampoo and Conditioner are the perfect duo to emphasize hair patterns while controlling frizz, leaving hair with a soft, shiny, bouncy finish.

Shape:

To accentuate the shape of your curls, coils, or kinks, apply Keune Care Curl Control Curl Boost Spray to control frizz, add hydration, and slight hold. Then layer Keune Style Curl Cream to define and add shine.

Finish:

Once fully dry, apply Keune Style Humidity Spray No. 13 to protect against the elements and prolong the style or Keune Style Dry Texturizer No. 61 to create a textured finish with volume and bounce.

Heat-Styled Curls

From waves to curls or undone bends, adding texture patterns with heat to the client’s hair will mean each holds a curl very differently, and that is why it is essential to know which products prolong a shape accordingly.

Before you begin:

  • Ask your client how their hair responds to heat styling to determine how well curl patterns hold.
  • If the hair is too smooth before curling, the shape will quickly fall. Roughly blow dry hair first to account for this and use a paddle brush to finish instead of a traditional round brush.

Prep:

Once cleansed and conditioned with a regimen tailored to your client’s needs, always prep the hair with a heat protectant. Keune Style Instant Blowout No. 37 is the ideal base. It will speed up dry time while adding lightweight body and luster while offering heat protection up to 446°F.

Shape:

Determine the thickness of each section and heat settings based on hair type and hold factor. Then, working section by section, layer Style Soft Set Spray No. 57 and then utilize a curling tong or straightening iron to complete the desired pattern.

Finish:

Once hair is cooled, finish by layering with Keune Style Freestyle Spray No. 86 for a flexible finish with humidity protection or Keune Style High Impact Spray No. 106 for a strong hold and humidity protection.

Prolong the style by sending clients home with Style Dry Shampoo No. 11 and Dry Conditioner. Instruct them to spray throughout hair before bed and suggest they swap their pillowcase for a satin or silk option to cut down on friction while they sleep.
