Education Station: Meet Cory A. Wallace
By Keune | January 3rd, 2017
Keune Educator Cory A. Wallace just completed his first year as a Keune Educator, and has amplified his career. Not only is he a mentee in design, hair cutting and finishing courses at the Keune Advanced Academy in Atlanta, he is also a member of the new BLEND Tour team!
Wallace has been a hairdresser for six years, and he’s already making a big name for himself on the beauty scene. In addition to teaching for Keune, he does hair a couple of days a week at Virgo Salon in Lincolnwood on the north side of Chicago. He’s also developing special programs, which he will be launching later this year.
His journey started as a model at a hair show 11 years ago. His stylist? Keune’s Shannon King. “We became friends and Shannon is now one of my best friends, mentor and life coach,” says Wallace. “I got my license six years after that meeting and have never looked back. He’s been guiding me ever since.”
What are the highlights of his first year with Keune? “The entire company has been so welcoming,” Wallace says. “With Keune, it felt like family from the beginning. I knew I had found my home.”
Wallace loves creating edgy hair color and he loves a challenge.Watch movie online The Transporter Refueled (2015)
“The energy and controlled chaos at a show and when I’m teaching classes remind me of the movie ‘Fantasia,’” he says. “All the mops and brooms are cleaning and creating complete chaos. But then it all comes together.”
As an educator, Wallace creates a fun experience and is known for his attention to detail. “I want to make sure everyone understands the subject thoroughly before I leave,” he explains. “I make it a point to get back to everyone in the class if they have a question. I’m always there to support stylists after the class. I turn classes into shows to make them more of an event and involve everyone. Shannon taught me the difference between presenting and facilitating. Presenting is standing up front telling attendees about the topic. But facilitating is guiding people on their own journeys to find the answers to their questions. I help them feel like they are a part of the class and get them involved to make sure everyone is having fun.”
Wallace can’t wait to hit the road for the BLEND Tour. “The haircuts are amazing,” he explains. “They’re piece-y, edgy and fun for both stylists and their clients. They’re not the typical everyday looks. The low sku line is perfect, because every product has a purpose. Then, I love mixing the products together to have fun with styling and create more products. It’s as if the brand was designed just for me!”
