Keune Gets Real at Rock the Runway

By | October 30th, 2018

The 1922 by J.M. Keune Men’s Styling Team dazzled Stylists in Western Canada last month during Rock the Runway. In an Instagram world, Modern Beauty Supplies’ owners Mike and Fay Jomaa and their family designed this multi-manufacturer, invite-only event to inspire beauty professionals to get out and see a live show in person. Everyone agreed, it brought back the energy!

Keeping It Real

While most brands focused on fantasy and avant-garde hair creations, the Keune Men’s Styling Team kept it real. James Helton shared his trademark “Manly Advice.” Gareth Palmer presented money-making tips and techniques that focused on marketing, great service and retailing. All were straightforward so that Stylists could take them back to their Salons and use the next day to boost business.

Says James, “Men care more about value than price when making purchasing decisions. Therefore, educating the guys in your chair is key to growing your men’s business. They want to know about everything, from the techniques we use in the Salon to how to recreate their looks at home, including the products we expect them to use.”

The Details

He adds, “When it comes to guys, the devil is in the details. Be it their hairline, the cut itself or their eyebrow shape, nothing goes unnoticed by our male guests. Use your products from the beginning of the design all the way through to the finish and tell them why. For instance, 1922 by J.M. Keune Classic Gel is not only a great styling gel for pumping up pompadours or sculpting a super-clean finish, it’s also my go-to cutting lotion. Working a pea-sized portion through the hair before cutting helps to reinforce the design and shows you how the hair will lie on the head, allowing for adjustments while the guest is still in your chair.”

Comments Shauna Jones, Keune’s Canadian Business Development Manager, “Stylists were so impressed with Keune’s original twists on Classic Men’s Barbering and Color techniques. They couldn’t wait to go back to their Salons and put the education into practice. Men’s hair is the hottest category in the market and Keune was the only company who put guys on stage!”

The Take-Home

Stylists took home full-size tubes of 1922 by J.M. Keune Classic Gel. Following the show, Megan Harrah got down in the trenches for two days of hands-on Cutting and Grooming for Stylists and Barbers in Edmonton and Calgary.

Brand Sales Managers Melody Walker and Amy Nilsson supported the team. Educator Michelle Morrison assisted with model prep and show flow.
