The Benefits of Balayage for Stylist and Client
By Keune | March 30th, 2017
The balayage highlighting technique is a trend that is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, more and more people are requesting this beautiful, more natural-looking color service at the salon and the number of stylists offering balayage is rapidly growing due to high demand. The benefits of balayage for both the stylist and client are many. Here, Courtney von Berg, Keune Advanced Academy and International Keune educator, discusses the trend.
How would you describe what balayage is?
“Balayage is a highlighting technique that has a softer, more natural effect than traditional foil highlights. It is a freehand technique in which the color is painted onto pieces, creating a soft effect at the top of the strands and more concentration and saturation through the ends. The results are a more gradual, natural-looking highlight,” explains Courtney.
What are the benefits of balayage for the client?
“The way balayage highlights grow out are graceful and subtle in comparison to other methods. The regrowth line is very diffused and clients can go longer in between salon color visits. [Score!] Even though balayage has been around for a while, it is the current ‘on-trend’ way to have youthful, natural and dimensional color,” Courtney says.
What are the benefits of balayage for the stylist offering it as one of his or her services?
“Balayage is a great way to customize your color service. It can be used to add just a few accents or to create an overall color change. It offers the stylist more control in the placement of highlights and can be modified to accentuate the design of the cut. The balayage technique allows you the flexibility to work with the texture and density of your client’s hair,” Courtney says.
What’s more, it’s important to offer balayage in order to stay current with trends (this one, long-term) and be well-versed in the technique for clients who ask for it.
